China Unicom Announces International MMS Fee Structure
Netease Tech, 8/13/09
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) submitted a report to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) at the end of July detailing its fee schedule for international MMS services. The services, which are to be launched soon, will make Unicom the second Chinese operator to offer international MMS after China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK). The service is to charge per message, and each message may be no larger than 100 KB.
Unicom's MMS fees are as follows (in RMB/message):
Domestic Recipients | Overseas Recipients | |
---|---|---|
Sending from China | 0.9 | 1.5 |
Sending from abroad | Roaming data fee + 0.9 | Roaming data fee + 1.5 |
Receiving in China | No charge | |
Receiving abroad | Roaming data fee |
In comparison, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) currently charges RMB 0.3 per local MMS and RMB 1.5 per international MMS sent, does not charge to receive, and also charges data roaming fees for activity abroad.
