Chunghwa Telecom, Unicom Negotiate on Roaming Fees, iPhone

Taiwanese media report that China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has recently been in talks with Taiwanese operator Chunghwa Telecom on 3G roaming fees, international submarine cable services, and other potential partnerships. The companies have already signed a memorandum of understanding regarding a joint lowering of 2G and 3G international roaming fees. China Unicom is also in talks with Chunghwa regarding cooperation on cross-straits wireless value-added services for the iPhone, with Unicom reportedly expressing interest in Chunghwa's iPhone user experience, and potentially in bringing in a customized version of Chunghwa's 'Hami' mobile portal. Chunghwa and Unicom reportedly also intend to extend their cooperation to the areas of popular music and digital content; Taiwan-localized digital content may also make its way into China Unicom's 3G platform in the future.
