Operators Announce June 2009 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for June 2009.
June saw the net addition of approximately 8.3 mln new mobile subscribers, of which subscribers to China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) comprised over 5.0 mln, pushing the operator's total GSM user base to over 493.1 mln. In June, a total of 959,000 subscribers used China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network services. China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added almost 0.9 mln new GSM subs, bringing its total to approximately 140.4 mln, and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) added nearly 2.4 mln CDMA subs, bringing its total to just under 39.3 mln. Of total new subs added in June, China Mobile took 61%, bringing its share of China's total mobile user base to 73.3%.
China Telecom lost approximately 1.4 mln fixed-line subs, reducing its total to less than 199.4 mln, while China Unicom lost 255,000 fixed-line subs for a total of approximately 108.5 mln.
China Telecom and Unicom enjoyed positive growth in broadband, with China Telecom adding 810,000 new users to reach under 49.1 mln, and China Unicom adding 980,000 to reach 34.9 mln.
