China Revises Handset Charger Standards
News Express, 7/16/09
China has begun revising its mobile charger unified standards, according to sources at the 21st meeting of China Communications Standards Association's Telecom Terminal Equipment Working Group of the Network and Switching Technology Committee (TC3), but it is unclear how the new standards will differ from those of the European Union. An EU standards official said on June 29 that the world's ten major handset manufacturers, including Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Motorola and NEC, agreed to produce interchangeable phone chargers next year.
In December 2006, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) officially published and implemented CCSA's "Requirements and Testing for Mobile Handset Chargers and Interfaces" (YD/T1591-2006). A CCSA official said that considering future trends in handset development, it is necessary to amend and supplement the content of the existing standards, including naming, structure, specific requirements and testing methods.
