News Express, 7/09/09
PC and consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) recently unveiled the Longmen store in Huizhou, one of the first of an estimated 31 county-level regional stores to open in Guangdong province this year. Lenovo China GM for consumer notebooks Zhang Hua said the company plans to create a "1+N+N'" channel model to target rural markets. The "1" of the model name refers to county-level stores – that is, 4S stores opened by Lenovo as part of the rural computing initiative – which will provide rural customers with an integrated location for products, training, and after-sales services; the "N" refers to several thousand Lenovo retailers deeply embedded in the rural market; and "N'" Lenovo's "convenience windows" in village areas. According to Lenovo, the company will set up 700 county-level stores and 7,800 township-level retail outlets, and will bring "convenience window" coverage to 32,000 administrative-level villages throughout the country.
