CSMBC Changes Name, Expands Coverage and Services

Liu Tingjun, deputy general manager of CMMB operator China Satellite Mobile Broadcasting Corporation (CSMBC), has revealed that the company's network now provides CMMB coverage in 180 cities, and will add another 157 cities in the second half of 2009. At the same time, CSMBC is carrying out the transition to a second-generation CMMB network which will provide interactive functionality.
The company has developed over 500 CMMB handheld terminals, says Meng Fei, general manager of CSMBC's handset division, with sales of over 3 mln units. CSMBC is simultaneously building a CMMB terminal products warehouse and data center.
CSMBC content products division deputy general manager Shi Jie said that future CMMB content will focus on proprietary channels and push-based information services, including information for navigation, news and other services.
Editor's Note: China Business News also quotes CSMBC deputy manager Liu Tingjun also saying that CSMBC is changing the name of the company and its subsidiaries to China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and also launching a new business brand called Jing Cai this August, and completing 31 provincial operations companies by the end of this year. Deputy general manager of the content products division Shi Jie also said that push-based information services will be launched by October, and proprietary channels such as Phoenix TV will be added one by one.
