Fujian Telecom, Enterprises to Cooperate on 3G Animation

Eleven animation and gaming industry players signed a cooperative agreement on June 20 in Fujian. China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) provincial operator Fujian Telecom, Fujian province's Animation & Gaming Industry Association, Fuzhou Software Park's Governing Council and Fuzhou-based online computer game company Netdragon Websoft (0777.HK) will join forces to develop animation and games for 3G handsets, web-based ChinaNet and mobile internet television platforms, carry out innovative research and development, industry supervision and network maintenance, create supply chains linked directly to the market and launch 3G animation and gaming operators.

Last year, Fujian produced over 5,000 minutes of animation, a ten-fold increase over 2007. The 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) calls for the industry to grow at a rate of at least 50% each year.
