Chinese Government Condemns Google China for Pornography
China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre, 6/18/09
Yesterday evening, China Central Television (CCTV) programs "Xinwen Lianbo," (7:00 Evening News), "Jiaodian Fangtan" (literally: "Topic in Focus"), and "News 1+1" all reported that Google China's website contained large amounts of pornographic and vulgar content. The reports were based on a criticism of Google China by the China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Center (CIIRC), which earlier yesterday announced that based on public reports and official inspections, it believes Google China is disseminating large amounts of pornographic images, video, and text, in serious violation of national laws and regulations.
Google.cn has already been publicly exposed by CIIRC twice this year, in January and April, for providing links to obscene, pornographic and vulgar content. The CIIRC has strongly condemned Google.cn, demanding the website remove all offending content and recommending that relevant law enforcement agencies punish the company according to the law.
