Taobao to Launch New Monitoring System
Sohu IT, 6/17/09
Chinese B2C and C2C e-commerce site Taobao announced that on June 24, it will complete internal testing and launch its second-generation online security monitoring system.
Starting that day, the new monitoring system will notify all merchants who have not yet signed Taobao's honesty pledge and whose accounts have histories of fraudulent transactions, giving them another chance to sign Taobao's honesty pledge. Those who neglect to sign the honesty pledge within the allotted time will automatically be docked twice the number of points by the new system.
Editor's Note: Taobao merchants found to have engaged in transactions in contravention of Taobao's terms of service will be automatically notified that they have been docked 1 point from their credit ratings (or 0 points in cases where the transactions were not fraudulent); when a merchant has been docked 24 points, Taobao will take further measures, including temporarily shutting down the merchant's online store. On January 1 and July 1 of each year, Taobao resets the point counters to zero.
