China Mobile Wins Hong Kong Spectrum Allocation

Hong Kong's Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) has announced that China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) local subsidiary is among three mobile network operators awarded radio spectrum in the 1800 MHz frequency band in bidding from June 8 - 10. China Mobile Hong Kong received 3.2 MHz in the 1782.5 – 1784.1 MHz and 1877.5 – 1879.1 MHz spectrum ranges for an upfront spectrum utilization fee (SUF) of HKD 15.12 mln.
In addition to the upfront fee, each bidder is required to pay an annual SUF (for the period from September 30, 2009 to September 29, 2011 of HKD 232,000 for each frequency band per year; and for the period from September 30, 2011 to September 29, 2021, HKD 2.32 mln for each frequency band per year or 5% of the network turnover in the year concerned, whichever is the higher.)
Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) and SmarTone Mobile also successfully bid for spectrum.
