59iyule Continues Lawsuit Against Baidu
Sina Tech, 6/05/09
Online original music sharing platform 59iyule, formerly named 5fad, said its copyright infringement compensation suit against online search engine Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) will be heard by the Supreme People's Court of China on June 9.
The two sides have faced off in court seven times since February of this year, when the Beijing High People's Court rejected 59iyule's request for RMB 100 mln in compensation, but found Baidu guilty of copyright infringement on 26 songs and ordered it pay RMB 70,000 in compensation. Combined legal fees for the case totaled over RMB 540,000, RMB 440,000 of which was incurred by 59iyule, leaving it down RMB 370,000 even after compensation and prompting it to appeal the case to the Supreme People's Court.
