ChinaByte, 6/02/09
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) said it would test CDMA1x EV-DO Rev.B technology in July, with the goal of commercial deployment in 2010, bringing the maximum downstream speed of its CDMA networks to 9.3 Mbps after the upgrade.
According to a report by Sina Tech, telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei revealed that it had already released CDMA network systems equipment upgraded to EV-DO Rev.B, and was currently in talks with China Telecom and other operators regarding possibly building China Telecom's first EV-DO Rev.B network next year. Zhao Ming, president of CDMA products at Huawei, said the company plans to test its commercial EV-DO Rev.B systems with China Telecom in July, with Rev.B terminals to be released in the second half of the year, initially as data cards.
By and large, CDMA operators - including China Telecom - currently use EV-DO Rev.A technology, which is limited to 3.1 Mbps downstream and 1.8 Mbps upstream.
