6Rooms Drops Online Movies
Donews, 5/22/09
Liu Yan, president of Chinese online video-sharing site 6Rooms, said that the company has discovered that movies and other video material lasting longer than 40 or 50 minutes in length consume a large amount of bandwidth without contributing to advertising revenue. Consequently, 6Rooms began to divest itself of film content in 2008.
Regarding 3G services, Liu said 6Rooms has made a number of preparations for the new technology, but that the 3G environment remains immature, adding that he does not believe 3G will progress beyond the testing stage in 2009.
Liu also said that 70% of 6Rooms' revenue comes from gaming ads, and that the company's latest promotional campaign, which targeted gamers, covered 70% of China's Internet cafes. 6Rooms has more than 3 mln visitors daily and says that advertising conversion rates among these users are two to three times higher than those for traditional video sites.
