China Unicom Starts Selling 3G Data Cards, Netbooks Online

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has begun selling 3G data cards and netbooks online through its official website and the website of its Huasheng handset procurement subsidiary. A China Unicom representative said that from today, distribution would expand to all of its service outlets. 3G data cards and netbooks will be sold in packages consisting of a data card or netbook, a USIM card, a user manual, a standard subscription plan and RMB 600 credit. The standard subscription plan is RMB 150/month with a 3GB transfer limit, although a discount of 50% will apply during Unicom's WCDMA trial period, which will last until the end of August.
Three kinds of data cards are available online, 2 from Huawei and 1 from ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), with Unicom offering two different bundles costing RMB 1,188 and RMB 1,038; Three netbooks from Samsung, Acer and Lenovo (0992.HK) are on sale for RMB 4,399, RMB 4,099 and RMB 3,899 respectively.
