Tencent Q1 2009 Net Profit Up 94%

Chinese Internet and mobile and telecommunications value-added services provider Tencent (0700.HK) has announced its unaudited financial results for Q1 2009, with net revenues reaching RMB 2.5 bln (USD 366.4 mln), up 74.8% year-on-year and 19.4% quarter-on-quarter.
Net income attributable to equity holders for the quarter came to RMB 1.0 bln (USD 151.5 mln), up 93.8% YoY and 19.1% QoQ.
Revenues from Internet value-added services (IVAS) for the quarter were RMB 1.9 bln (USD 278.6 mln), up 90.7% YoY and 28.8% QoQ. Revenues from wireless and telecommunications value-added services (WVAS) were RMB 439.5 mln (USD 64.3 mln), up 52.5% YoY and 9.9% QoQ. Revenues from online advertising were RMB 146.6 mln (USD 21.4 mln), up 1.4% YoY but down 30.1% QoQ.
Total registered instant messaging (IM) user accounts increased to 934.9 mln, up 4.8% QoQ. Active IM user accounts increased 9.1% QoQ to 410.8 mln. Peak simultaneous online user accounts for IM services was 57.5 mln, up 15.7% QoQ. Peak simultaneous online user accounts for its QQ Game portal (for mini casual games only) was 5.8 mln, up 22.7% QoQ. IVAS paying subscriptions were 36.9 mln, an increase of 17.5% QoQ. WVAS paying subscriptions were 16.8 mln, an increase of 14.3% QoQ.
