Rumor: Kingsoft, Lenovo Cooperate on Entertainment Platform
Sina Tech, 4/24/09
An industry source has revealed that Chinese application and entertainment software developer Kingsoft's (3888.HK) online gaming business will join forces with computer manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) for the first time, bundling Kingsoft's game JX Online World with every Lenovo consumer PC. The ultimate goal of the alliance is to incorporate an entertainment platform based on Lenovo consumer PCs consisting of Kingsoft's software and games. Games will be the core business of the platform, which in the future may include other pre-installed software and remote downloads. Payment will consist of a revenue sharing agreement, but details on the specifics and when the platform would be released were not announced.
According to a source at Lenovo, the platform is geared not only towards Kingsoft, and talks with other gaming companies are also in progress. Lenovo hopes to set up a shortcut icon on the desktop of all home PCs giving users quick access to a wide selection of games from various companies.
Kingsoft and Lenovo both declined to comment on the news.
