Baidu to Launch Mobile Search in Japan

Sina Tech, 4/15/09

Li Yinan, CTO of Chinese online search firm Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), recently revealed during a summit focused on mobile Internet that Baidu plans to launch a mobile information search platform this month in Japan. According to Li, the launch is an important part of the company's Japanese development strategy.

Editor's Note: According to other media reports, Li also revealed that Baidu, through technological optimization and webpage data compression, has achieved a 90% reduction in mobile data volume (and, accordingly, data traffic fees) for users of Baidu's wireless search compared to direct website access from mobile phones (i.e. viewing any given website through Baidu results in 90% lower data traffic than connecting directly to the same site).
