Baidu to Launch "Phoenix Nest" on April 20
Sohu IT, 4/09/09
Online search firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) new pay-per-click advertising auction system "Phoenix Nest" will be officially released on April 20, marking the second stage of the company's search advertising development plan. On March 30, Baidu's advertising services changed its name to Baidu Online Marketing Services.
From now until June, Baidu will encourage advertisers to switch from the current pay-per-click advertising platform, which offers pay-per-click advertising only for the left-hand side, to the Phoenix Nest platform, which offers pay-per-click advertising on both the left- and right-hand side. From June onwards, the company will assist users to migrate their data from the current platform to Phoenix Nest, which will then become Baidu's mainstream online marketing product.
Editor's Note: Currently Baidu also offers right-hand side advertising (called "Right Match"), but at a set monthly fee for any given slot. It also offers its pay-per-click advertisers an option called "Broad Match", which allows purchasers of left-hand side advertising (i.e. "Exact Match") to have their ad show on the right hand side when a related, but not exactly matching keyword is queried by the user (for example, the client may purchase the word "laptop", but not "notebook" or "netbook" when a user searches for either of these second two terms, the advertiser's ad would show up on the right hand side). The ad appears in the top-most right-hand slot that has not already been purchased by any "Right Match" clients.
