In preparation for a government-sponsored rural subsidy on computers, Lenovo Group (0992.HK) has officially introduced a series of new measures related to products, distribution channels, services, and training.
Liu Jie, vice president of Lenovo, stated that the company is focusing rural efforts on 9 custom manufactured desktop computer models, 5 notebook computer models, 1 integrated desktop model, and netbook computers, with pricing ranging from RMB 2,500 to RMB 3,500. Over the next three years, the company will construct 700 county-level "landmark outlets" providing services including sales, service, training, advertising, and product trials.
At the same time, Lenovo plans to construct 7,800 retail distribution outlets and grow its number of service outlets from 1,514 to 10,000. In addition to its current team of 7,000 IT staff certified by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Lenovo plans to train another 3,000 over the next 3 years for rural markets.
