SARFT Requires Encryption for CMMB

Netease Tech, 2/27/09

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has announced that by the end of 2009, all CMMB terminals need to have conditional access (CA) systems installed. Currently there are CMMB networks in 150 major cities across China, and 37 of these cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, still provide free channels. It is expected that by the end of 2009, these channels will be gradually converted to encrypted, premium channels.
