50 Sites Quit Anti-Baidu Alliance

People.com, 2/19/09

Wang Fengchang, CEO of legal services portal Laweach.com, has stated that approximately 50 websites intend to withdraw from an anti-monopoly alliance that is suing Chinese search engine Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU). Wang mentioned the main reason for the withdrawal was that since the beginning of the year, Baidu had begun indexing their sites again. From January 19, 2008 until January 19, 2009, Laweach's site was blocked by Baidu, but recently pages on the site have become available in the search results again.

Editor's Note: In mid-January, Laweach.com formed the online anti-monopoly alliance with over 100 websites to bring suit against Baidu for malicious removal from search listings, extortionate marketing practices, trademark infringement and click-fraud.
