Rumor: Fiberhome, Postcom Join in Unicom WCDMA Bidding
CWW, 1/21/09
A knowledgeable source has revealed that 8 manufacturers are currently participating in the first round of China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) WCDMA equipment bidding including Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB), Huawei, Nokia Siemens, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Motorola, New Postcom, and Fiberhome Technologies.
Due to not having much experience with WCDMA, Motorola, New Postcom, and Fiberhome Technologies have submitted bids relying on other equipment suppliers. Huawei will supply equipment to Motorola, while Ericsson equipment will be used by New Postcom and Fiberhome Technologies.
Editor's Note: New Postcom and Fiberhome Technologies are newer additions to the group of vendors competing for Unicom's WCDMA equipment contracts, with previous reports naming only Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, and ZTE. Alcatel Shanghai Bell (ASB) changed its name to Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB) on Jan. 8, 2009.
