Operators Announce November 2008 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for November 2008.
Mobile subscriber uptake was down slightly from October's total of 7.7 mln to 7.4 mln in November. Of this total, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added approximately 6.9 mln subs to reach 450.2 mln. In contrast, China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added nearly 1.0 mln new subs to reach over 132.9 mln and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) lost 430,000 CDMA subs to reach 28.0 mln. Of total new subs added in November, China Mobile took 92%, bringing its share of China's total mobile user base to 73.7%.
China Telecom lost 1.5 mln fixed-line subs, dropping its total to 210.4 mln, while China Unicom lost 1.5 mln fixed-line subs for a total of 105.0 mln.
Broadband continued to see healthy growth in November, with China Telecom adding 690,000 new broadband users to reach approximately 43.6 mln and China Unicom adding 234,000 to reach 25.4 mln.
