Chi Mei to Focus on Mainland China Market

Chen Liyi, director of the TV panel division for LCD television panel manufacturer Chi Mei Optoelectronics, stated recently that the company will begin to place strategic focus on the Chinese mainland market to offset performance declines in foreign markets. The company is currently considering plans to establish an LCD module plant in northern China.

Chen also revealed that LCD screens provided to the mainland by Chi Mei Optoelectronics already occupy half the company's total production capacity, and the company plans to open an 8.5-generation production line next year.

According to Chen, Chi Mei has recently provided 42-, 47- and 55-inch energy-saving LCD screen models for commercial use to domestic television manufacturers such as Changhong (600839.SH), Skyworth Digital Holdings (0751.HK), and Konka (200016.SZ, 000016.SZ). Chi Mei also hopes to make inroads in rural markets through participation in a recent government subsidy program for home appliances.
