China Mobile to Ban Unhealthy WAP Content
Gd.chinanews.com.cn, 12/08/08
In an effort to clean up the wireless value-added service provider (SP) environment on its Monternet WAP portal, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) is conducting trials in Guangdong of a warning system for unhealthy content. The system is designed to automatically send a warning message to the user when he begins browsing potentially dangerous or unhealthy content, and then provides a link to a safe WAP address.
After trials in Guangzhou are completed, coverage will be extended to all of Guangdong province within two or three months and then potentially deployed nationwide within a year. Guangdong Mobile stated that it will regularly conduct dynamic testing for the top 500 visited WAP portals, and sites that contain unhealthy images will be added to a blacklist.
