China Telecom Issues Customized CDMA Handset Standards

Sina Tech, 11/27/08

A source at China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has disclosed that the company recently unveiled mobile phone manufacturing standards for its customized CDMA handsets. The standards lay out guidelines regarding phone case markings, menu options for its "E-surfing" brand, color schemes, and handset power on/off prompts. Moreover, all CDMA handsets must now pass testing by China Telecom in addition to network access testing administered by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The source also revealed that various CDMA handset models have already passed China Telecom testing, including 7 models from Hisense (600060.SH), 5 from Yulong's Coolpad brand, and 2 from Tianyu (K-Touch).
