New Unicom Announces Company Structure

CCID, 10/28/08

Industry sources have revealed the finalized details for the organizational structure of the new China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), which will see 28 departments under the main headquarters, plus an additional vertically managed company. Former department managers at China Unicom and China Netcom will assume positions as general managers for the 28 new departments.

The new headquarters will merge the former back-end departments of China Unicom and China Netcom, including the administration and human resources departments. Front-end departments such as marketing will be reorganized as required. The newly-formed vertically managed company will be responsible for managing the departments of Unicom and Netcom that do not merge.

Changes to the organizational structure of provincial branch companies will not commence until restructuring at China Unicom's headquarters is completed. Until that time, branch preparatory organization will continue.

Editor's Note: According to news reports from CWW and Netease, the new vertical company will be responsible for Unicom's 3G-related business, including network construction and maintenance.
