Rumor: Datang, Huawei, ZTE Top TD-SCDMA Bidding

Sources have revealed that results for the second round of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) commercial tender for its TD-SCDMA network have been finalized, with Datang Mobile coming in first, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) second, and Huawei third. Specific allocation of the 28 cities involved will be announced next week. Commercial tenders accounted for 50% of the total bidding, which also included technical tenders.
It was also revealed that the manufacturers generally quoted prices at or around cost, since boosting market share was a top-priority.
Editor';s Note: According to news site China Communications, an executive from one of the winning vendors revealed that in the bidding ZTE, Huawei and Datang Mobile each won 30% of the bid with the remaining 10% shared among Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, China Putian (Potevio), FiberHome, and Guangzhou New Postcom. Specific results will be officially revealed at the end of October.
