Guangxi to Install 10,000 Secure Satellite Receivers

Xinhuanet, 10/21/08

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the Guangxi Bureau of Information Industry will trial the deployment of China's next-generation secure receiver system for rural direct broadcast satellite (DBS) television in Wuming county in Guangxi. Work on the project began in early October and will continue through the end of the year. Plans call for the deployment of 10,000 secure satellite receivers to provide rural residents with access to television programming.

Editor's Note: Under the secure receiver system, illegal receivers, which are rampant in China, will not be able to access satellite TV content.
