Rumor: SASAC to Operate National Telecom Network

Netease Tech, 10/09/08

Insiders at Guangdong Mobile say that in order to solve the problem of infrastructure redundancy among operators, the Chinese government is currently considering the formation of an enterprise under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) to operate a national telecom network. Under this plan, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) would lease network resources from the new enterprise, including base stations, and fiber optics.
