Tencent Q2 Profit Up 90.5%

Chinese Internet and mobile & telecommunications value-added services provider Tencent (0700.HK) has issued its unaudited consolidated financial results for Q2 2008, with total revenues reaching RMB 1.6 bln (USD 233.2 mln), up 84.3% year-on-year and 11.6% quarter-on-quarter.
Net income for the quarter came to RMB 652.2 (USD 95.1 mln), up 95.0% YoY and 20.3% QoQ.
Revenues from Internet value-added services (VAS) were RMB 1.04 bln (USD 151.2 mln), up 3.8% QoQ, and 89.9% YoY. Revenues from wireless value-added services (WVAS) were RMB 338.3 mln (USD 49.3 mln), up 17.4% QoQ and 64.2% YoY. Revenues from online advertising were RMB 222.8 mln (USD 32.5 mln), up 54.1% QoQ and 94.4% YoY.
Total registered instant messaging (IM) user accounts increased to 822.2 mln, up 5.0% quarter-on-quarter. Active IM accounts increased 7.6% QoQ to 341.9 mln. Peak simultaneous online user accounts for IM services recorded 42.0 mln, up 4.2% QoQ. Peak simultaneous online user accounts of its QQ Game portal (for mini casual games only) was 4.0 million, flat QoQ.
