Nanjing Launches CMMB Services

Xinhuanet, 8/06/08

Jiangsu Television has begun CMMB broadcasting for mobile devices in Nanjing, allowing mobile users to receive 7 channels of programming free of charge. The CMMB broadcast signal covers most of the roads and public spaces in Nanjing, with the exception of areas around Purple Mountain and certain southern parts of the city. Signal reception inside buildings is said to be relatively good.

Nanjing is among the first batch of non-Olympic cities to begin CMMB broadcasts and initially there will be 2,000 CMMB capable phones released into circulation. The network is expected to be put into commercial use in 2009, when it will be used to provide government services, news, traffic, weather, education, medical, and stock market information.
