GAPP: No Plan for Online Game Ratings System

Beijing Times, 8/02/08

Yesterday, at the China Electronic Competition (E-Sport) Industry';s second international summit, Kou Xiaowei, deputy director of the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP)';s Department of Audio, Video, Electronic and Network Publication Administration, stated that a ratings system for online games would currently be difficult to implement and would first require defining the boundaries for categories such as violence and sexual themes. This would require gaining an understanding of socially accepted levels for such definitions, but even then, it would have no legal basis to support such as system. As such GAPP is not currently planning such a system.
