ZTE to Build RMB 4.85 bln R&D Base in Xi'an

Chinese telecom equipment vendor ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) is planning to build a new research and development base in Xi'an. The project is scheduled to cost RMB 4.85 bln, be completed in 2013, and bring in more than RMB 10 bln in annual sales. The proposed base will carry out development and production work related to ZTE's mobile communications systems, and develop core software for its wireless systems, mobile phone products, and 3G wireless products. It will also have an international customer training center and software-outsourcing service center.
