Rumor: China to Issue 3G Licenses in Early September

Chinese telecom industry insiders are predicting that 3G licenses will be issued in early September. According to the speculations, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) will require at least three months, at the earliest, to complete its acquisition of China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) CDMA network, and Unicom's merger with China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK) will take a similar amount of time.
