Pacnet, Beijing Netcom Launch 20 Gbps Service

Telecom and Internet bandwidth provider Pacnet, which was formed by the merger of Asia Netcom and Pacific Internet, has unveiled a plan for expanding services in China and strengthening its network operations.

Pacnet CEO Bill Barney said that "we already have next generation EAC-C2C networks landing in Qingdao, Shanghai and major Asia-Pacific cities." China GM Zhang Xiaoqing said that, "to meet the needs of the Beijing Olympics, we have worked with China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK) to make 20 Gbps of bandwidth available to support services including high-definition TV broadcasts."
