China Mobile, Government Promote Rural Mobile

The Ministry of Commerce has published an agreement signed with China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and the China Post Group on April 26 on a project to bring mobile telecom services to rural areas.

The Ministry of Commerce will assist China Mobile in establishing more distribution points for China Mobile services. China Mobile will incentivize local entities to sell its services by offering service discounts, sales commissions, and handset subsidies. Meanwhile China Post will provide preferential pricing for third-party logistics support for the project's undertakers and procurement alliance and underwrite RMB 10 bln of credit between 2008 and 2010.
