China to Submit TD-SCDMA-based 4G Standard to ITU

Beijing Times, 4/24/08

The Ministry of Information Industry (MII)'s China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) and major TD-SCDMA manufacturers including Putian have revealed that the TD-SCDMA Alliance has put together the IP and patents for a 4G evolution of the standard. The group plans to submit a complete proposal for a TD-SCDMA-based 4G standard to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) by the end of this year.

The standard will provide peak data flows of up to 100M per second - fifty times current 3G speeds.

Putian plans to unveil a prototype 4G TD-SCDMA device in Q4 this year.
