Telecommunications Law a 'Top Priority' for 2008

Market News, 4/23/08

The Legislative Affairs Office of China's State Council has indicated that the draft Telecommunications Law, designed to protect telecom networks and information security, is being given top-level priority in 2008. The Information Security Regulations, aimed at protecting personal information, has second-level priority. Currently, the Party Central Committee Office and State Council Office's five year plan for information technology in economic and social development requires both these pieces of legislation, along with laws or regulations on electronic payments, the protection of personal information and electronic government.
