IM Netcom to Build Environmental Monitoring System

The Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region government and China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK) hosted a signing ceremony for the new "Inner Mongolia Environmental Protection Agency Automatic Pollution Source Monitoring Project" in Beijing yesterday.
China Netcom will build a system to monitor major sources of pollution for the Inner Mongolia Environmental Protection Agency. The project will be divided into three phases: the first phase will involve mainly the construction of monitoring and control centers in the Inner Mongolian autonomous region and allied cities and accessing 223 enterprises designated by the state as major pollution sources; the second phase will add another 500 polluters to the monitoring system, and the third phase will add all remaining polluters. The main services of the system include an online front-end to the pollution source and work-condition monitoring systems, as well as video monitoring and other front-ends. The applications systems include an environmental data processing center, a subsystem for automatic monitoring and processing of major polluters, an environmental and geographical data subsystem, a policy support subsystem and others. The overall system also includes an office system, videoconferencing systems, and an environmental hotline, 12369.
China Netcom will act as an integrated project manager in a range of different roles including its design and planning for the project, network construction, hardware integration, hardware customization and development, project implementation and hardware repair outsourcing services. The project is a major model project for Netcom in the field of ICT services.
