Rumor: New Online Video Licenses Increased to 23
Tech.qq.com, 4/03/08
The number of SARFT-approved sites to receive an online video license has reportedly increased to 23, most of which belong to state-owned enterprises. A video website source has disclosed that SARFT has requested that self-regulating website alliance sites maintain an information library and frequently upload both self-detected programs in violation of regulations and recommended, outstanding programs. Access to the library will be recorded and sites which fail to login regularly will be reviewed.
SARFT has also recently expressed its position on video broadcasting coverage of the Olympic Games as follows: CCTV.com holds the exclusive rights for both online video and mobile video broadcasts of the Olympic Games in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau, and no other website may rebroadcast Olympic programming without authorization from CCTV.com. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will enforce strict online monitoring and any offending sites will be punished as a serious offender in violation of copyrights.
