Sina Tech, 3/31/08
An industry insider has revealed that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has finally settled upon communications subsidies and handset prices for TD-SCDMA users. For the 20,000 participants in the company's "public service test," China Mobile will provide testing handsets free of charge and compensation for RMB 800 worth of talk time per month. For corporate testers, an incentive of RMB 80 will be paid for users whose talk time exceeds 500 minutes. The preferential pricing policy will last 5 months.
Among the TD-SCDMA handsets that will go on sale in China Mobile outlets on April 1, the most expensive is the ZTE U890, which retails for RMB 3,800. The Samsung L288 and LG KD876 are priced at RMB 2,800 and 2,500 respectively. The Lenovo TD800 will sell for RMB 1,980, and the remaining domestically manufactured TD-SCDMA handsets (e.g. Hisense and Postcom) are priced under RMB 2,000, at RMB 1,800.
The two wireless internet cards, the ZTE MU316 and the Datang DTM5722, are priced at RMB 700 and 800 respectively.
