SPs Modify SMS Spam Strategy

The Beijing Times, 3/21/08

A survey of companies sending spam SMS has found that they have changed tactics, registering mobile email addresses in order to operate and including good wishes to discourage the recipients from registering a complaint.

A sales official with one firm said that as mass SMS senders are currently strictly regulated, the company has switched to sending via mobile email addresses. Currently several employees are staying up overnight registering these addresses via PC. 1,000 can be registered in one night and each account can be used to send between thirty and fifty SMS.

According to an employee with a company in Chongqing, including the company's best wishes and similar messages can reduce the chances of users complaining. "And if they don't complain, we can keep sending."
