Sohu IT, 2/29/08
Reports are claiming that under the State Council Reorganization Plan, plans for a reorganization of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) are officially set. Under the plans, the MII would be combined with the State Council Informatization Office, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND), and a portion of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The new post-merger body would be known as the "Ministry of Industry and Information," and would be headed by the current Party secretary and director of the State Administration of Work Safety, Li Yizhong, with current MII director Wang Xudong to serve as Party secretary. MII spokesman Wang Lijian said that he had not received any relevant notices.
From February 25 to February 27, the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCCPC) held its second plenary session. The committee reviewed and passed the Suggestions on Deepening Reforms of Government Administrative Systems and the State Council Reorganization Plan, and agreed to review the latter as part of next month's National People's Congress.
