ZTE, Lenovo Win TD-SCDMA Network Access Permits

On January 30, a spokesperson at China Telecommunication Technology Labs (CTTL), the laboratory in charge of mobile phone access authorization management, confirmed that the first batch of TD-SCDMA licenses had been issued, with manufacturers including ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) and Lenovo (0992.HK) among the first to gain authorization.

On January 6, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) began seeking a first round of bids on TD-SCDMA terminals, with bid content including 30,000 mobile phones and 10,000 data cards. ZTE, Huawei, Samsung, LG, Lenovo, Amoi (600057.SH) and other manufacturers participated in the bidding; those who did not gain network access authorization will lose the right to bid.
