NDRC to Promote Satellite Development
China Securities Journal, 1/23/08
Yesterday the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released its plan to organize a high-tech satellite commercialization program during 2008-2009. The plan lays out a roadmap for transitioning trial-stage satellite applications to a business service model and promoting the development and commercialization of civilian satellite applications.
The plan seeks to accelerate the commercialization of satellite technology applications and increase self-developed satellite-related products and services used in government public services over a period of approximately three years. In terms of communications and broadcasting, the plan aims for domestic production to satisfy 80% of demand for fixed satellite communications equipment used in public services; in satellite navigation, to increase annual production of compatible terminals, modules, and chips to over 1 mln units and promote their usage in key sectors; in satellite remote sensing applications, to make self-developed satellite data account for over 50% of data used in key sectors.
