Guangdong Proposes Mobile Real-Name System
New Express, 1/20/08
Ten members of Guangdong People's Congress have proposed that the province adopts local legislation or regulations to enforce a real name registration system for mobile phone users.
The proposals would require new users to show identification when opening a mobile phone account, while existing users would have to register with telecom authorities within a certain time period. Non-registered numbers would become invalid after this period. Strict regulations on responsibilities of operators and their agents would be put in place, along with measures to protect user information.
