MII to Shut Down Websites Advertising Virility Drugs

The Ministry of Information Industry has issued notice of a crackdown on illegal advertisements for 'virility drugs' and treatments for STDs. Telecom authorities are to shut down websites which continue to carry advertisements identified as illegal by the industrial and commercial, pharmaceutical, health and Chinese medicine authorities.

An MII official explained that to date 22 websites have been prosecuted in Yunnan, 5 closed in Zhejiang, 9 closed in Fujian and 13 prosecuted in Liaoning. Action has also been taken in other provinces including Jiangsu, Hubei, Hebei and Shaanxi.
