US Film Studios Sue Jeboo
China Business News, 11/22/07
20th Century Fox, Disney, Paramount, Columbia and Universal are suing a Shanghai Internet cafe for showing thirteen of their films, including A Night at the Museum, XXX: State of the Union, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Aeon Flux and Charlie's Angels 2, via installing VOD software from Beijing firm Jeboo. The plaintiffs hold that Jeboo abetted the Internet cafe's infringement of their copyright and are demanding RMB 3.2 mln in compensation.
Jeboo describes itself as China's largest legitimate online cinema, with online rights to 30,000 movies. The company was founded in 2004 by IT industry expert and former 21cn CEO Lu De.
LENS: The same afternoon this news was reported, Jeboo denied the claims of IPR infringement. For more details, please see "Jeboo Denies Infringing Movie Copyright," in the new Marbridge Daily, 11/23/07 issue.
