Baidu to Lead Construction of National Deep Learning Technology Lab
Baidu, 2/20/17
Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has announced that China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has approved plans for the Beijing-based internet giant to lead the construction of a National Engineering Laboratory for Deep Learning Technology. The NDRC will also allow Baidu to participate in setting up two other national labs: the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Systems Software and the National Engineering Laboratory for Brain-Like Artificial Intelligence Technology and Applications.
The National Engineering Laboratory for Deep Learning Technology will focus on seven major technology and research areas, including deep learning, computer vision and sensing, computer listening, biometric identification, new forms of human-computer interaction, standardized services, and deep learning intellectual property rights.
Baidu will provide the lab with deep learning computing, algorithm, and big data resources, as well as research topics at the forefront of industry research. In turn, Baidu will benefit from the lab's training opportunities and post-doctoral workstations to attract new talent.
Baidu will lead the project, and will jointly construct it with Tsinghua University, Beihang University, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, and the China Electronics Standardization Institute.
